At the close of the Building Community Together Capital Campaign, the Foundation had received more than 700 gifts and pledges totaling more than $2.4 million toward the construction and furnishing of the new Parnell Memorial Library. The campaign received a lead gift from the family of Dr. L.C. "Foots" Parnell, Jr., in addition to the donation from Dr. and Mrs. Parnell of the present library building in the early 1980's. U.S. Senator Richard Shelby announced in February 2004 that he secured $400,000 through the appropriations process for the City of Montevallo to use for construction of the new library.
