July 2008 Theatre Workshops for Children and Teenagers

The July theatre workshops were directed by Ms. Jeanmarie Collins, professional actor, adjunct professor of theatre at the University of Montevallo, and drama coordinator for the conservatory at Birmingham-Southern College.

Workshop I, July 7-11, 9:00 a.m. - 12 noon, was for students completing grades 2-5. It introduced students to elements of theatre through classes in creative dramatics, beginning dance, and vocal performance.

Workshop II, July 7-18, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., was for students completing grades 6-12. It introduced students to auditioning, rehearsing, and producing the play Our Town by Thornton Wilder. The Workshop performance of Our Town was on July 18 at 7:00 p.m. Some of the participants in this workshop were also part of the cast for Froggie Went A Courtin’ presented on July 25 to a special preschool audience and a general audience.
