Parnell Memorial Library Foundation

The Parnell Memorial Library Foundation led the BUILDING COMMUNITY TOGETHER Capital Campaign, a broad-based, collaborative effort that raised more than $2.4 million to replace the existing 3,254-square-foot public library facility with the new Parnell Memorial Library and community cultural center.

The primary goals of the new facility are to

• promote life-long learning
• encourage and showcase community arts
• provide venues for educational, cultural, and civic activities
• produce economic benefits for the city.

The facilities consist of

• a versatile, attractive brick building of 12,400 square feet
• library space for 19,500 volumes
• additional public-access computers and wireless internet access
• expanded reference resources, including the Parnell Collection of military and Southern history materials in the Parnell Room
• a multipurpose meeting room for up to 75 adults or 125 children
• the Southern Writers Room, an area for study and tutoring (4-6 people)
• an art gallery containing works by regional artists and rotating exhibits of children's art
• a community theater/auditorium with raked fixed seating for 140

The site includes landscaped outdoor spaces for cultural arts programming and leisure activities, with ample parking for patrons and participants.

The library is adjacent to beautiful Orr Park and across the street from Montevallo Elementary School. It is in walking distance of Montevallo Middle School, Montevallo High School, and many businesses and residences in historic downtown Montevallo.
