Montevallo is a small community that has been blessed in big ways. One of the biggest is Parnell Memorial Library. Parnell Memorial Library is a wonderful hub of activity for all members of our community, both young and young at heart. It is one of Montevallo’s treasures, with something to offer every person, from our impressive children’s book collection and weekly "Storytime and Sing-Along with Mr. Mac" to large audio and video collections to the ever-growing adult book collection. Parnell Memorial Library houses an Art Gallery, a Meeting Room for community events, and a theatre equipped for movies and plays.

Parnell Memorial Library also offers programs to enrich the lives of our youngest citizens--the children of Montevallo. Through the Parnell Memorial Library Foundation, the library offers a two-week Children’s Musical Theatre Workshop every summer and the Reading Is Fundamental program three times a year.

The Children’s Musical Theatre Workshop features an original play with parts for children between the ages of 6 and 12. Teen helpers create sets, help actors practice lines and songs, play original musical scores, and run the lighting and sound. This workshop is offered without charge to any child or teen who wants to participate.

The Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program provides age-appropriate books three times during the school year to Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade students in Montevallo. Volunteers go into classrooms to share quality children’s literature with students. The students then choose a book to take home and share with their families. The goal of the RIF program is to promote the love of reading and to share literacy with families at home.

Although these programs are offered to our children and families free of charge, they are not without cost. The generous gifts of our donors, both their financial support and their volunteerism, help us keep these programs thriving year after year. With your financial support, the Foundation can not only maintain these programs but also grow them. We ask that you consider continuing your Parnell Memorial Library Foundation membership or becoming a PMLF donor!

Gifts may be made in support of either the Children's Musical Theatre Workshop or the RIF program. Gifts may also be made to the General Fund to provide matching monies to help the library secure book and equipment grants and to cover basic administrative expenses.
